About

Welcome!

CwdWbODUQAAdrqY

I write romantic fantasy where magic is real and love is dangerous.

My books are full of genre-blending plot twists and impossible choices that will make you suffer in the best way possible. (Not to mention so. much. yearning.)

Two of my romantic fantasy series are now available:

🗡 Minutes Before Sunset – a Midwest-inspired rural romantasy where the “dark side” are actually the good guys (and everyone has two faces—literally!)
Bad Bloods – a dark dystopian fantasy that’s part X-Men, part rebellion, all heart (& found family)

When I’m not writing, I work in Art Rights & Permissions at Penguin Random House Audio and bake cookies at midnight while binging K-dramas. I’m also a cat mom to two mischievous gremlins. I’m represented by Gallt & Zacker Literary agency.

Ready to chat books? ☕ You can reach me at via my Contact page. I’ll be drinking coffee when I read your message.

Talk to you soon!

  1. Hi Shannon,

Thanks for the follow. You seem wise beyond your years with regard to writing, and congrats on being published at such a young age. Finally:
Casablanca … my all time fave movie. Those of us with good taste need to stick together.

    Chris

  2. Hi Shannon,

PS- I had one poem published in Coal City Review.

    1. I find Six Degrees of Separation very interesting. Sounds like we wouldn’t even need six links.
I have to admit I don’t know what the RT Convention in KC in May is, but let me know? Maybe we can meet!
      Congrats on the publication,

  5. Thank you for stopping by my blog. I wish you much success with your writing. I wish I would have pursued my writing dreams early in life like you are doing, but better late than never! 🙂 It is really a blessing to know early on what you want and to go after it. I am so sorry to hear that you lost your mother and roommate. That is a lot of heartache. I lost both my parents when I was 12, so I understand how hard that is. Again, best of luck to you and keep writing! 🙂

  6. Hi Shannon thanks for visiting our blog. And greetings from Canada. Lawrence, KS makes me think Winchester boys.:) Keep writing!

  7. Massively impressed you wrote your first novel at 16 – wow..born to be a writer I’d say! So happy you dropped round my blog so it would lead me to yours. Look forward to reading your work.

  8. Thanks for following my blog, Shannon. I look forward to reading more of your offerings! I’m having a lot of fun interacting with so many writers. I must say we’re a fascinating bunch. 😉

  9. Hey Shannon,

Thanks for looking at and following my blog. I look forward to following yours. I resonate most with your statement, “I find that reality really can be stranger than fiction,” life is most interesting when meeting and getting to know new people. Best Wishes, R.

  10. Thanks so much for following my blog Shannon! My plan for this year is to serialise a novel which has some autobiographical elements, heavily fictionalised. Perhaps we can discuss that very diffcult balancing act some time! In the meantime, best wishes and greetings.

  11. Thanks for dropping by my blog, Shannon. I look forward to reading your first novel – what an achievement. I’m studying an MA in Creative Writing through Kingston University in London (also called KU), although I live in South Africa. Keep writing. Nella

  12. Thank you so much for your encouragement and inspiration Shannon. Mutual admiration for Sylvia Plath by the way and wonder do you like Carson McCullers? My favourite is Ballad of the Sad Cafe. Looking forward to catching up with your books, enjoying your blog at the minute. Thanks again and all the best for now 🙂

  13. Ni hao Shannon! I am really chuffed that you liked my blog, and that you are now following. Very flattering that a gorgeous young person would bother with the witterings of an old(er) lady in faraway China! I’ll be checking your blog out regularly. Gong Xi Fa Cai!
which is best wishes for the up-coming Chinese New Year.

  14. It’s nice to “meet” you, Shannon! It’s great to meet a writer who has been published. I too moved around a lot when I was growing up and books and poetry were my one anchor throughout. Wishing you all the best in your writing endeavors : )

  15. Thanks for the follow, Shannon. I think it’s a great time for young people to be writers, so much more opportunity to showcase your talents both in print and eprint now. 🙂

  16. Hi! Thank you for visiting my blog today, I’m sorry to hear about your loss of your mom. I’m very certain that she is super proud of your amazing writing. Congrats on your publishing though! I’ve been wanting to for the longest time 🙂

  17. Shannon,

Congrats on publishing your first novel at 16! That’s a big accomplishment.

Also, I want to thank you for stopping by my blog and checking it out as a follower. Thank you very much.

  18. First of all, your mother must have been one of the greats! You are so very fortunate to have had shared all you did.
Second, there is no thing as too much coffee! 🙂
Third and least, thanks for choosing to follow one of my blogs. I hope you continue to enjoy the posts.
Love your cat and the name is great.
Is Lawrence Kansas anywhere near Clay Center? I have family there and have visited in the past.
    Bon courage et bonne chance!

    1. Clay Center is about two hours away from Lawrence. (I actually had to look it up, to be honest.) Ha.
      My mother was great 😀
Thank you for your sincere encouragement.
Looking forward to further communication via posts,
      ~SAT

  19. Hi Shannon –
Thanks for the follow, from one Packers fan to another! Next year, we bring Vince home (I say this every year. I have been right twice…lol)! Looking forward to reading your posts and checking out your book!
    Sue

  20. A black cat…not unusual, I guess, but I thought that was my Luna peeking out the bag. And, a Bogart fan…I’ve got High Sierra, Key Largo, The Petrified Forest, Casablanca, and The Maltese Falcon in and out of my DVD player so often the labels are getting faded. Lot of people on your page…good place to get lost. I’ve got three followers, if one of them hasn’t left in the last two hours…you are now a percentage of my “following.”
    Later…

  21. Shannon,

john from the Book of Pain poetry blog (http://bookofpain.wordpress.com/). Got a message that you are following me and I wanted to drop and say thank you and check your site out. I love it and I love your positive attitude. But while you talk of writing poetry, I didn’t see any, and that’s a shame! Please post them.

    1. The ones that were published are posted on my “Poetry Collection” tab at the top of my page.
Also, after my Undergraduate Reading Series this Wednesday, I will be posting what I read to the University of Kansas.

  22. I am delighted that you have found your way to dragonshades where you can pass through many portals to alternate worlds full of fascinating stories. I admire your inner trust and your ability to share your thoughts and dreams. Every success now and always.

  23. Wow, you are very accomplished for someone so young. That’s very admirable. Thanks for visiting my blog and for following it. I look forward to reading your posts. On a totally unrelated note my sister and parents (we are originally from Bangladesh), lived in Lawrence for years.

  24. Shannon, thank you so much for looking at my blog! The follow was greatly appreciated and I wish you luck in your writing career.

    1. Oh, one quick question: Why did you choose to follow my blog? From what I can tell you don’t seem to have any interest in Japanese music, so I was curious as to what compelled you to follow a blog like mine! Thank you again!

      1. I actually LOVE Japanese music. Any foreign sounding music, actually. One song inspired a novel of mine. I believe it’s Chinese though. “Dreamland” by Fan Shiqi. I’m not positive, but it’s common for music like that to inspire me.
