About

Welcome!

CwdWbODUQAAdrqY

I write romantic fantasy where magic is real and love is dangerous.

My books are full of monster girls, the boys who are obsessed with them anyway, and impossible choices that will make you suffer in the best way possible. But don’t worry! I believe in hard-won happy endings. If you love dual POV romance, emotional twists, and finales that feel earned and satisfying, you’re in the right place.

Two of my fantasy series are now available:

🗡 Minutes Before Sunset – a Midwest-inspired rural romantasy where the “dark side” are actually the good guys (and everyone has two faces—literally!)
Bad Bloods – a dark dystopian fantasy that’s part X-Men, part rebellion, all heart (& found family)

When I’m not writing, I work in Art Rights & Permissions at Penguin Random House Audio and bake cookies at midnight while binging K-dramas. I’m also a cat mom to two mischievous gremlins. I’m represented by Gallt & Zacker Literary agency.

Ready to chat books? ☕ You can reach me at via my Contact page. I’ll be drinking coffee when I read your message.

  1. Thank you, Shannon, for following me. Much of the stuff I post is just for the sole purpose of getting things off my chest, but my one “FreshlySqueezed” posting might interest you!

I’ve been getting more followers lately, yet many of them whom I look to check out simply turn out to be non-people, businesses, and figments of some sort or another; thus, I posted something about not understanding blogging a few weeks back. However, it was nice to see you are “real”! ; )

I’ll check out some of your entries ASAP!

    Happy blogging,
    Michael

    1. Michael,
I am very real! Your post was very interesting! I’m sorry “spam” things might have brought you down, because real people will bring you up more than those things can ever take away. You can do it! Your consciousness is exciting!

      1. Sounds grand, Shannon, you’re being “real” and all! ; ) Happy blogging and all you do in… Kansas, I thought I read earlier!

  2. Hi Shannon, thanks for following my blog. I also live in Lawrence, KS, and actually work at KU. So we’re neighbors! It’s always nice to meet a fellow writer. Congrats on your two novels.

  3. Thank you for following my blog, I really appreciate your support as I’m only starting out and am a little nervous. The strength in your voice and writing is inspiring, I will continue to read and explore your fantastic blog. All the best and I wish you continued success.

  4. Shannon, thanks for following my blog. You are such a talented writer (and this based solely on your about page) and I’m amazed that you would be interested in my blog. I’ll be hanging around to see what else you have on your site and perhaps I’ll learn something that will make my writing better.

    Later,

    Catherine

    1. Catherine,
I’m flattered by your words, and I’m glad you enjoy my site as I enjoy yours.
If you ever have a writing topic you’re more curious about, let me know, and I’ll post with your blog tagged as the question.

  8. I’m pleasantly surprised and deeply humbled by your following my blog. Still kind of new to blogging and writing, thus I’m looking forward to reading and learning from your posts. Thank you!

  9. Thanks for following my Blog! Very cool to read about your writing, especially as we’re the same age! Young adult fiction is the best…I look forward to following your writing!

  10. Hello, Shannon! Thanks for following my blog; I am pleased to reciprocate. We share an affinity for Bogart and black cats (my Number 1 little guy, Tolstoi, passed a few years back.) All best wishes for your continuing professional success.

  11. Thnanks for following my blog. I’m very new at this as you might have noticed. My list of favorite authors also includes Poe, Clare and Safran Foer. Interestig mix, huh?
Concerning cats: my cat gave birth to 4 kittens 2 days ago: 2 of them are all black….

    1. Yes! I love having an eclectic mix of favorites though. Gives more room for discussing genres and different types of stories. (Plus, Foer, Poe, and Clare are amazing.)
And kittens 😀 aww. I have to stay away from black kittens or I’m going to end up with another cat. haha

  12. You seem like an awesome person! I was born in Lawrence! But I haven’t been back since 😦
Thanks for following my blog! I look forward to reading your future posts!

  13. I love Edgar Allan Poe also and Sabrina is one of my favorite movies. I like the old version with Audrey Hepburn and the new version with Harrison Ford. You are an inspiring writer, and I look forward to reading more of your posts.

  14. Thanks for following me at patricecaldwell.com (if you want to read my book reviews, etc…feel free to follow me at whimsicallyours.com)!

It’s always nice to connect with other writers, especially college-aged ones. I’m a major chatterbox, and I definitely rememer starting writing because 1. it was the way I best expressed myself (my talking got me in a lot of trouble) and 2. I got tired of the books I was reading & wanted more …I can’t wait to read about more of your adventures! And congrats on the book release 🙂

    1. You’re welcome. And thank you for connecting with me. Sounds like we have a lot in common, and I love talking to other writers and readers as well. Thank you for the congratulations 😀 Means a lot

    1. Thank you for returning the follow. I’m excited we have so much in common :] Those people are the best. And I’m drinking a coffee right now! Funny caffeinated world we live in.

  18. I wanted to say “Thank You” for stopping by my blog and becoming a follower. I hope that you will find some posts that will cause you to stay and comment. I write only for my own enjoyment so any feedback from those that know what it is supposed to look like is appreciated.

Side note- I am a fellow Kansan, I reside in SE Kansas and work in the Joplin area. Guess we are a strange breed to be here when the wind keeps blowing most things away. 🙂

  19. Shannon, Really happy to know about you, your writing, and your blog. I, too, studied writing as an undergrad a zillion years ago; took me a while to get back to it! Thanks for your interest in my blog, and your generous spirit towards fellow writers! –Barbara

  20. Hi Shannon–thanks for choosing to follow Wine and Cheese (Doodles). You are certainly far more accomplished than I was at 21! Bravo. Thanks again and hope to see you around WCD.

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  22. With so many blogs out there to follow, I’m honored that you chose to follow mine. You are an ambitious writer, and I wish you the best. I’m totally jealous of your hair. It’s beautiful! I just had to add that – sorry – nothing to do with writing or your abilities! I look forward to getting better acquainted this year through our blogs. 🙂 Marsha 🙂

  23. Hi Shannon,

First of all, thank you so much for coming across my blog and following it. Much appreciated as it is a boost to the ego to continue writing.

I’ve only had a chance to glance through your blog and read your About page, and you are someone of inspiration, with all that you have been through and achieved already in your life.

We share a love for writing. I am looking forward to reading your pieces!

  24. Read “November Snow” last year. When I got your like I though one of my friends was trolling me. Huh.

(P.S It was a great book).

    1. That is very funny! I’m glad you enjoyed “November Snow.” That little story just made my night. Thank you for sharing. I’m looking forward to more of your posts! The first two sentences of part 4 cracked me up. I just had to keep reading.

Well, that made my day. (Because of the time difference).

  25. Wow!! Publishing a YA novel at 16! You’re very lucky. Really. In my country, that’s next to impossible.

  26. Love your blog– pretty slick! Thank you for following me, too. I am SO excited to see another young writer like myself making their mark on the literary world! Looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for us! 🙂

  27. Thrilled to have your follow on Sugarfree Sweetheart! 🙂 I’d come across your blog long before I started blogging when I was looking for inspiration to get started with my fiction writing. I’ve been struggling to get my writing out of me and took to cooking to vent out some of the energy. I’ve not given up on writing yet.. but I’d better get started soon! Anyway, it was a lovely surprise. Thank you! 🙂
