About

Welcome!

CwdWbODUQAAdrqY

I write romantic fantasy where magic is real and love is dangerous.

My books are full of monster girls, the boys who are obsessed with them anyway, and impossible choices that will make you suffer in the best way possible. But don’t worry! I believe in hard-won happy endings. If you love dual POV romance, emotional twists, and finales that feel earned and satisfying, you’re in the right place.

Two of my fantasy series are now available:

🗡 Minutes Before Sunset – a Midwest-inspired rural romantasy where the “dark side” are actually the good guys (and everyone has two faces—literally!)
Bad Bloods – a dark dystopian fantasy that’s part X-Men, part rebellion, all heart (& found family)

When I’m not writing, I work in Art Rights & Permissions at Penguin Random House Audio and bake cookies at midnight while binging K-dramas. I’m also a cat mom to two mischievous gremlins. I’m represented by Gallt & Zacker Literary agency.

Ready to chat books? ☕ You can reach me at via my Contact page. I’ll be drinking coffee when I read your message.

Talk to you soon!

  1. Shannon, thanks for the follow! I’m honored, and I truly admire your accomplishments. I’ve been a writer as long as I’ve been a reader, but I have (finally) found the courage to pen my first novel. I look forward to exploring more of your blog and your work!

  3. Thank you for checking & following my blog. It feels good for me to follow a young & talented writer as you 🙂
Best of luck for your upcoming works 🙂
PS: Paranormal, dystopian & black cats – sounds awesome 🙂 For me that should be “too much tea”.

  5. Hi Shannon – Thanks for visiting and following my blog! It’s always an honour to meet fellow writers who are passionate about their craft. It’s wonderful that you’ve followed your dream from an early age – not many people get to do that. I do look forward to learning and sharing with you. All the best. Shery

  6. Thanks for liking my post. I hope you stop by Sitting in the Stacks again soon. I look forward to following your writing!

    1. Thanks for stopping by 😀 I really enjoy your website, and I’m flattered that you liked this page. Also, I read your comment on my blog post about Scribd. I’m still really weary about programs like that as well.

  7. Shannon, I’m deeply flattered that one so talented should visit my humble public forum…I’m also curious as to 1. how on earth you found me, and 2.(probably even more curioser as to) why you should bother with the Follow button at all?? Cheers REDdog

    1. I’ve been reading your posts for a little while now. 🙂 I really enjoyed your story about your tattoos, and when you mentioned a Ducati, I was sold. I found you through the reader. Hope that answers your questions.

      1. Maybe you’ve got something you’d like me to write about? Might be interesting, haven’t put that out there before.

      2. Have a look at my post Back In The Saddle Again Part 4, see if that’s the sort of thing you mean and I’ll have a think about what else I can come up with

  8. Hi Shannon. Quite impressive! How many books under your belt? 🙂
Thanks for visiting Equinoxio. Come back any time. Door’s open and the light’s always on.
    Take care

  9. I’m with REDdog. Well, not technically… I’m actually married with four kids, none of whom have cool tattoos or piercings. But I am wondering how you found my little blog. And I thank you for the follow.
I have to say, I love that you write. I love that you write with such confidence. I love that you somehow believed you could make this writing thing work. There’s a message in there for the rest of us old folk, I think.
P.S. Your recent poems are astounding.

  10. hi Shannon, i apologize for this late acknowledgement but i just wanted to ty for following my writing, encouragement is always really appreciated. and kudos to you for pushing your dream, you should be very proud to have published so many books this early in your career.

  11. Hello Shannon,
Thank you for the follow at, “Through The Cracked Window,” I am honored. -Stephen

  12. I want to thank you for following “A Way With Words.” My joy in writing is made more complete when people read what I’ve written (and even more so as they respond).
I write mainly about faith and mental illness, but am known to dabble occasionally in other subjects, stories, and even the occasional poem. If you have any requests, please let me know.
I appreciate what you have going here and commend you on your prolific writing. I share some of your literary passions (namely for Poe and Billy Collins). I pray you are blessed in your life and writing, as you bless others.
    Gratefully,
    Tony Roberts

  13. It’s an honor that you followed me! After reading this and gaining this background on you, I’m entirely inspired by your story. Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful work/thoughts/mind 🙂

  14. Hey, Shannon!
Thanks or the follow. I love your blog’s opening page. It’s refreshing to see genuine and fun loving people be themselves. I’m also very impressed with your success. I can just tell you have real passion and no small amount of talent.
If I may, how did you first find your audience? You seemed to have done this quite well fairly early. I’d love to hear what that experience was like for you.

    1. Hey, D.C. Runkel!
I actually share a lot of stats and other information here on ShannonAThompson.com to help those who might want to build their audiences. I share #1 searched term, my most popular posts, and more to explain what brings people to my website. Here’s a good place to start since it covers one year (https://shannonathompson.com/2014/01/02/my-year-in-review/) but I would suggest checking out the “Ketchup” posts. Those get more specific since they only cover one month at a time.
      Hope that helps,
      ~SAT

  15. Thank you so much for following my blog and liking my post! I am also an aspiring author and reading about you and your wrok made me want to start writing again. 🙂

  16. Shannon, thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog and reading my recent post. I appreciate the effort put into your blog and have a deep appreciation for all you’ve accomplished in your young life. You go, girl!

  17. Wow. You are such an inspiring person. Seeing all you have accomplished in such a short time span is so encouraging to a high schooler like me, who wants to write, but can’t seem to accomplish her goals. Thank you for demonstrating what hard work can bring. Now I just need to emulate you….easier said than done;)

  18. Thanks for following my blog Shannon. You have a lovely blog. Loved your About page. Think we have a few things in common! Writing, cats, Elvis, only difference is our ages. Sigh! Will have to catch up with you!
