Thank You for Everything
This post comes with a heavy heart and weeks of hesitation, but in the end, I have to post it. I’ll be honest. I tried to shoot a video because I thought it would be more personal (and you all deserve that so much) but I could not get through it. I could not even shoot two minutes. So I’m typing it, and my first apology is how disconnected this message will come by, but I hope you all will understand what I am about to say.
I’m taking a long break from ShannonAThompson.com. I want to call it quitting because it feels like quitting. To be honest, it feels like failure, but I simply cannot handle everything right now, even though I’ve been trying to power through it for a long time now.
Things in my life are not going well right now. I would go into details, but it’s not about the details. I’m not asking for a pity party. I will get through it. But I hope you will understand my long leave of absence. I’m not sure when I’ll come back. It might be two weeks. It might be two years. (Okay. Two years is a tad dramatic.) Maybe I’ll even come back in a month or so. But I wish I could estimate, and I cannot. I’ve even tried holding off on this – for weeks, probably even for months – and I can no longer lie to myself that I can continue at the rate I have for the past two years. I don’t know if I can continue at all, but I hope the break will help. That is my only hope right now.
During this break, I will try to focus on writing and bettering my life as a person and as an author so I can return with the positive energy you all deserve. I’ll try to stay active on Facebook and Twitter, and I might even post here – just not every other day. I will also still try to release Death Before Daylight, but I cannot promise anything at all, and I am so incredibly sorry to say that. I do, however, want to clarify that this is a personal decision. AEC Stellar Publishing, Inc. is still supporting The Timely Death Trilogy and my other works, and I’m remaining with the company. I only need to take a break from posting every other day as a breather for my own health. While this website has been some of the best solace in my life, I am too overwhelmed in other areas to continue here, but I hope you’ll stay for the day I return.

I want to thank everyone. Thank you to every blog that has helped me by commenting, sharing, and reviewing my books and blog posts. Thank you to every reader for taking a chance on my work. Thank you to every editor, cover artist, and publisher who helped create my publications. I am eternally grateful. Thank you. Thank you for supporting me. I do not deserve it right now though. But I hope to earn it back one day, and I hope that day comes sooner rather than later.
Until then, with all my love,
~SAT

You wouldn’t be human if things didn’t get on top of you once in a while. I’ve found a break is the best thing to deal with the essentials. Time turns things around. Good luck with everything – I’ve enjoyed your posts and I’m sure you’ll be back. Sue
I’m glad you enjoyed the previous posts, and I hope when I come back, those posts can be just as helpful. :] Thank you for your encouragement.

Have a wonderful blog break. I support you completely. I feel like social media is such a drain on authors. Good luck!
Thank you! It can be a drain. It has never felt like a drain before, but I think other parts of my life has caused this to be more overwhelming than anything. Once I get through all of that, I’m sure I can return here with energy and positivity.
~SAT
Wishing you the best and I hope that you come back soon. Take good care of yourself! 🙂

Taking care of yourself in the way you know you need to is never quitting or giving up….it’s doing something different because you need to. I hope you heal quickly, and completely…and do what’s right for you.
Thank you! I promise to rest well and try to come back as soon as I am able.

Don’t feel like a failure. Sometimes too much is too much. Focusing on your health and happiness should always come first. I understand personally as I am recovering from a severe burnout myself. Take all the time you need. Best of luck and take care of yourself!
I will try not to. :] I hope you feel better soon.
~SAT
Being good to oneself, caring for one, must always come first. For as the saying goes, to love another first you have to love yourself! Take care of you!
Thank you. :] I will try so I can come back better than ever. :]

I miss everyone already. Thank you. :]

You definitely deserve the break Shannon. I was always amazed at how much online activity you had going on and still finding time to write.
Its always good to take a time out and we all deserve some “me time”
You are an inspiration to me and all your fans and we will all still be here when you return.
Sending healing postive vibes your way. Have a wonderful break and unwind, relax and take time out to smell the roses.
((((Hugggsss)))))

Wishing you the best! Come back when you’re ready and we’ll be here:)
Glad to hear so many people saying they’ll still be here. I was worried about leaving even for a little amount of time, but everyone is so kind. Thank you.

if your body and soul are telling you to take a break, then that’s what you have got to do. You will come back better, happier, and healthier. I have really enjoyed your posts over these two years and I look forward to reading more in the future. I hope you are okay. Just remember that we try to control things: schedules, deadlines, outcomes, personal stuff, etc. and sometimes we just can’t. We have to go with it, ride the wave, let it play itself out.
Take care. Keep writing!
xoxo
Great points! I’m in the “can’t control” things moment of my life, but I’m hoping to ride that wave out, and when it’s over, I can return. Thank you for your encouragement.

It seems bloggers fall into two categories. Those that can just keep churning out posts day after day regardless of what is going in their lives and those that can’t. I have seen many of that latter group. I’m one of them and am actually in the midst of my own self-imposed blogging exile. I still read other people’s blogs, although not as much as I once did, but I’m not posting on my own blog. There are a lot of reasons and I won’t compare my own situation to yours, but I think I get where you’re coming from. If blogging isn’t working anymore, you shouldn’t force it. Take a break, deal with what it is that is going on. You’ll come back if and when you’re ready to. Good luck with whatever it is that you’re struggling with.
I’ve never had to take a break before, so it’s very foreign to me, but I’m hoping it’s ultimately the right thing to do in order to better myself so that this website can be okay in the long run. Thank you for your encouragement. I hope your situation is getting better, too. :]
~SAT
Only you know what’s right for you; you’re wise to listen to yourself. I wish you the best.
Thank you. :]
~SAT
Take care of yourself! That’s the most important thing! Looking forward to more writing from you, whatever form it takes — but you can’t thrive if you aren’t taking care of yourself!
I will try to come back soon! Thank you for understanding.
~SAT
Aww! Don’t feel bad. Everybody needs a little time off. The most important thing is that you start feeling better.
I will try to feel better soon. :] Thank you.
~SAT
Hope everything works out for you, Shannon!
Thank you! Me, too.
~SAT
I’m sorry to hear that. I wish you all the best.
Thank you!
~SAT
I wish you the best, Shannon and I’ll miss reading your posts… But I’m sure when you return you’ll be full of positive energy! 😀
I will try to. :] I will miss everyone, too.
~SAT
Shannon, I’m very sorry that you are having a tough time right now. You’re right–you will get through this. I think it’s wise of you to take a break–and when/if you return to blogging, try blogging once a week or so. It’s a lot easier, and a major blogger once commented that every 10 days is ideal, because it gives people a chance to catch up with you before the next posting. I’m no expert, but what he said made sense to me. Take care of yourself!
Thank you for the advice! I will consider that as a new method when I decide to return.
~SAT
Take care of yourself first, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you!
~SAT
Just remember, its not that we fall, but how we pick ourselves back up that matters. Take care of yourself, and good luck! Hopefully we’ll ‘meet’ again soon!
Hopefully. :]
~SAT
Everyone needs a bit of Me time. Take the time to renew your energies and return refreshed. We’ll still be here for you.
That is so nice to hear. Thank you.
~SAT
Wishing you the best of luck with your novel. Take your time, rebuild your energy.
Best regards.

Thank you, Sophi!

When I read your post on your routine recently I wondered how you do it all. Take a break, breathe, hug your cat. It will all settle down and then the most important things will get the focus they deserve, when you are ready x
Bogart and I have definitely been hanging out! Thank you. I will try to return soon.
~SAT
Taking a break can be the best thing, I really hope it helps 🙂
Me, too. Thank you for your support.
~SAT
I hope things aren’t too difficult for you – life and blogging can become overwhelming, and I think only other bloggers know that really. You’ve built a fantastic online fan-base, so I hope, when you’re ready, you’ll take strength from that. Looking forward to your return already 🙂
:] You’re so understanding! Thank you.
~SAT
I understand, Shannon. Do what’s best for your soul. Wishing you an increase in balance, connection, creativity, and every goodness.
Thank you for your wishes. Truly appreciated.

Best regards to you, Shannon. I just wanted to take a second and let you know how much it meant to me that you sent me a review request. I was starting to give up hope about my blog and was wondering if someone would ever actually be interested in my writing, and then I saw an email from you pop up in my inbox! It really made my day. Good luck with your writing and I wish you strength and courage to face whatever you are going through.
Your blog is fantastic! Don’t give up on something you enjoy. I know – that might seem ironic on this post – but I don’t think it’s a give up. Just a break. But blogging is a wonderful thing, and it brings me a lot of joy – just like this message you’ve posted to me has brought me a smile. Thank you. Keep reading. :]
~SAT
I will miss reading about your adventures. Best of luck in everything that you do. Hope you have a chance in the near future to recharge your batteries. Sending fuzzy kitten thoughts your way.
Fuzzy kitten thoughts definitely help! I’ll be back for sure!
~SAT
I hope that everything works out to your liking on your end in regards to your health, perhaps needing more space to breathe or simply weathering what life is presenting to you. You will write, maybe on a napkin, a post it note on your fridge, but you will jot down that thought which could be a spark to something epic. We creative writers are that way, for whatever reasons, we must create that change of scenery, change of atmosphere, we have to do something to jolt our universe into that new point of view. I recently announced on Facebook that I’m disappearing until the end of the year, to focus on one particular writing project. A promise I made to myself, with that decision, I oddly felt an immediate relief. I’ve read some of your writings here and enjoyed what I read. Sorry I hadn’t commented before, but I read this and had to respond. Best of luck to you and will kept an eye out for your return. peace tone
Thank you for sharing your experiences with me! I hope the break helps, and I keeping ahold of that hope during this time. I appreciate your kind words of encouragement as well.
