January’s Ketchup

2015 has already brought great changes to my life as a writer, reader, and blogger. Since I’ll talk about it more below, I’ll just take this moment to thank everyone for their tremendous support over this emotional month. I have exciting news and updates coming in February! So, look out for that. Until then, here is a summary of January.

For those of you just now checking in this month, Ketchup actually means “catch up.” At the end of every month, I write these posts describing what goes on behind the scenes at ShannonAThompson.com. Some of the topics I cover include my big moments, top blog post, my top referrer, SEO term, and more in order to show insights that will hopefully help fellow bloggers see what was popular. I also hope it entertains the readers who want “extras” for this website.

Thank you for being a part of my life this January!

Big Moments:

#1 Clicked Item was Take Me Tomorrow on Amazon

#1 Clicked Item was Take Me Tomorrow on Amazon

I lost my publisher at the end of December, but I didn’t talk about it publically until this past month. I was blown away by all of the messages, emails, tweets, and Facebook posts you all sent me, and I will never forget how encouraging every single one of you were and how you continue to support me through this difficult time. I promise I am not giving up! And I am working hard to bring you all a new happy beginning soon. I love all of you!

Another delightful part of this month (and hopefully for more months to come) was how many new authors began working with me through my independent Services. Having this opportunity has brought an endless amount of joy to my life. I hope February connects me with more authors and writers, so please share my Services page if you can. I strive to create affordable and reliable relationships with Indie authors by editing, marketing, and connecting readers with books – but you can read more about my work by clicking this link.

10620095_760175297362987_6507736429119474630_oSpecial thanks goes out to Omar Bula Escobar – former UN representative and author of “El Plan Maestro” – for translating and sharing a quote from Minutes Before Sunset yesterday on his website!

In my latest interview, I was asked if I have a message for my fans, and I do! Click here to read my answer on Mel’s Shelves. The interview is right below her review of Seconds Before Sunrise where she wrote, “I was drawn into this story and felt like I was there with them. I loved the ending and I’m looking forward to seeing where this story will go next!” Join the dark by clicking here before the last novel arrives this January.

A new poem – What I Wanted to Wear for Halloween – has been added to my interactive poetry series – now both on Wattpad and HelloPoetry. Comment, vote, or share for your chance to be mentioned on my YouTube channel!

The Please-Help-Shannon Poll

I am starting off November a little differently – with a small poll. I promise that it is small, and I hope that you take a minute to help me out. This poll has two questions that can affect my publishing discussions and the content of this website. Just comment below or shoot me an email at shannonathompson@aol.com.

What would you like to see published in 2015?

  • Death Before Daylight, book 3 of The Timely Death Trilogy
  • Take Me Yesterday, sequel to Take Me Tomorrow
  • November Snow rewrite and release
  • A completely new novel
  • Audio books

  • Something else entirely – please feel free to suggest something else

What would you like to see on ShannonAThompson.com?

This can range anywhere from more guest posts to YouTube videos to topic suggestions to posts that have nothing to do with writing and reading. So suggest anything below! (If you suggest a specific post I use in the future, I will credit you and your website for inspiration.)

This is how I call for help

This is how I call for help

I truly appreciate all of your time and help. Things have been really hard in my personal life recently, so I’ve had to reevaluate a lot of things. Unfortunately, that includes my publishing life and this website. I won’t lie. There might be a major delay or a dramatic change in the near future, and I hope you do not despise me because of it. I truly am sorry – because quite frankly I feel as if I am failing you right now – but I am trying my hardest to keep up with everything, and your responses will help me solidify decisions I need to make. I truly want your input on those decisions because you – as well as the wonderful AEC team – are the reasons I am able to pursue my writing life.

If you can be so kind, please share the services on my page. The Author Extension Community offers a variety of affordable packages for authors and bloggers, including:

  • Content editing and proofreading
  • Review and interview requests
  • Social Media assessments
  • And more!

I know. I know. Shameless marketing. But I need your help, and I hope there is no shame in asking for it.

Thank you again, and Happy November,

~SAT

Yesterday was my two-year anniversary of blogging here on ShannonAThompson.com. For that reason, I would like to thank each and every one of you for liking, sharing, and commenting on my website as we move forward into the future. A special thanks goes out to my top five commenters – Charles Yallowitz, Mishka Jenkins, theowllady, Deby Fredericks, and Phoenix Rainez – and I hope the next year is just as amazing!

2. Scribd, Oyster, and Why I’m Hesitant as a Reader and Writer (Dec. 29, 2013)

I hope you enjoy the posts if you haven’t read them already!

Moving onto the future – many exciting things are happening this fall, so I wanted to share them today, and I hope you’ll help me share the news.

I am doing a meet and greet book signing in the Kansas City area on October 2 from 6 – 8 p.m. Here is a link to the event’s page on Facebook for more information. I know many of you are from around the world and cannot make it in person, but it would mean the world to me if you shared it with your friends and followers in case they are nearby me. I would love to meet everyone that I can! (Also free chocolate muffins and apple tea will be served.)

I would also like to take this moment to state that prices have now been added to my Services page. They are subject to change, but I hope you check those out. The Author Extension Community provides personal assistant services, including review requests and content editing, as well as social media help, such as Facebook event photos and assessment guidance.

In other news, my latest poem – Peeling Oranges – has been added to my interactive poetry series on Wattpad. Be sure to like, comment, and vote for your chance to be mentioned during my next YouTube video on my channel, Coffee & Cats.

My next two posts – Website Wonders and September Ketchup – will be closing up this month, but I just want to thank everyone for being so enlightening, encouraging, and energizing these past few weeks. I’m excited for what Autumn will bring, and I cannot wait to spend it with you all right here on ShannonAThompson.com.

Have a great weekend,

Author Announcements:

Today, I wanted to share some important updates, mainly because it includes changes here right on ShannonAThompson.com, but it also includes an opportunity for your name to be mentioned during my next video on my YouTube Channel – Coffee & Cats.

So here’s the first bit of the exciting news!

I’m creating an interactive poetry collection. Every Friday, I’ll be posting a new poem on my Wattpad page, which you can visit by clicking here. My goal is to pick at least one of these poems per month to read on my YouTube channel – Coffee and Cats. That’s where you come in. Let me know which one you want me to read, and I might chose you to mention during my video. So far, I have three posted:

unnamedTo the thunderstorm I used to love,

Fukushima Daiichi

The French (History) Teacher

I hope you check them out and continue to help the collection grow every Friday. If you want to let me know which poem you enjoyed – or if you have questions about one – feel free to comment or message me on Wattpad or right here on ShannonAThompson.com.

Speaking of ShannonAThompson.com, you might have noticed the slight construction going on.

Since I hit 40,000 words in book 3 of The Timely Death Trilogy, I figured it was about time to create a Death Before Daylight page. I also created a page for my recently published short story, The Pink Scarf. Other changes include my “Tips” page. It has been taken down. It has been replaced by “Services” provided by The Author Extension Community, an open group run by AEC Stellar Publishing, Inc. We are now providing personal assistant work, content editing, and more to anyone interested, so click here to check out our services.

I hope these changes are as exciting to you all as they are to me, and I look forward to reading a poem chosen by you. I did want to take one moment to thank all of you – my publisher just gave me the news that my paperback sales are increasing more frequently, and I also got to see my top areas: So here’s a shout out to New Orleans, Atlanta, and Nashville. Keep on reading. :]
