#SATurdate: Pumpkin Spice Lattes, The Marked Girl, One Mississippi & Violins

17 Sep

What I’m Writing:

So this week I totally fell in love with Lindsey Sterling, an American violinist who blew me away. (I put her music in my music section, so check her out.) But this reminded me of a fact that will come up in Bad Bloods, so here it goes: Everyone thinks I named the walled-in city of Bad Bloods “Vendona” because of Romeo and Juliet’s Verona, but in all honesty, I got the name from my favorite violinist, Vanessa-Mae. Though it’s not “technically” said I kept hearing it at the ten-second moment in her song, Destiny. Check it out! Tell me if you can hear it, too. This is also why I’m SUPER excited about Bad Bloods: July Thunder. It’s very musical, and there will be violins!

This week’s #1lineWed preview was socks, and no lie, I was AMAZED I actually had a line in Bad Bloods: July Thunder that mentioned socks. There’s just some things we forget about, right? Well, not Hanna. She’s the character described in this preview.

What I’m Publishing:

I am working with Barnes & Noble again to set up a Bad Bloods book signing tour! I will host writing panels and more, so keep an eye out for that. Also, the Bad Bloods: November Snow paperback releases September 19—this upcoming Monday—and I will be releasing sneak peeks of the sequel through my newsletter and right here on www.ShannonAThompson.com. In other news, though, I am discontinuing the Bad Bloods prequel for now, so I can concentrate on future books, but don’t be surprised if I post new prequel stories randomly. (I will announce them if I do.)

What I’m Reading:

I’m currently reading The Marked Girl by Lindsey Klingele! It’s so good! Cute, fun, exciting, and super scary at times. I’ll include a picture next week when I post my review. ❤

What I’m Listening To:

This is the violinist I mentioned above!

What I’m Watching:

One Mississippi finally released. It’s an Amazon Original I’ve been waiting for since the pilot, and I LOVED it. That being said, it’s rather dark humor and dry, but…that’s my type of humor. I definitely recommend this show if you enjoy that type of cynical honesty.

What I’m Baking, Making, and Drinking:

css29pmuaaepnb8-jpg-largePumpkin spice latte! I just HAD to do it. That and peanut butter and chocolate chip pinwheel cookies. For those of you who actually look at the recipe, you might notice I didn’t bother with the swirling part. In all honest, I did…but I ran out of wax paper, and I nearly ruined my entire kitchen. So normal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies happened. I tend to use chunky peanut butter instead of creamy, too. They are awesome!

What I’m Wearing:

My Jayhawk t-shirts from my KU college days. Why? See “What Else Is Going On” below.

What I’m Wanting:

For Penned Con to get here already! I’m one week away and dying from excitement.

Penned Con St. Louis 2016

Penned Con St. Louis 2016

What I’m Dreaming Of:

Apparently, my profession was ghost-hunting, but this was not by choice. (I suppose this society chose your jobs for you.) But there were reports of ghosts out in this field, and I had to walk out there in the dark until I could find something. Basically, it was me walking through the woods expecting something to get me for what felt like forever. No jumpy surprises. For once.

What Else Is Going On:

Cocoa Cloud from La Prima Tazza

Cocoa Cloud from La Prima Tazza

For the first time in almost four years, I returned to my good ol’ college town of Lawrence, Kansas. I made a day trip out of it, and it was a blast. I got to eat cream cheese pineapple pizza at Pizza Shuttle (trust me, it’s awesome), drink a Cocoa Cloud from La Prima Tazza, and eat cereal from Java Break’s 24-Hour Cereal Bar. If you’re in Lawrence, I’m telling you, these are the places to be.

Today is also my big brother’s birthday, so…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRUGORY.

What I’m Writing:

Bad Bloods: July Thunder Sneak Peek

Bad Bloods: July Thunder Sneak Peek

I’m back on the Bad Bloods train with a brand-new outline and a continued plan after getting stuck in writing quicksand 38,000 words in. I actually have an article about WHAT was wrong with it coming out on Wednesday, so look out for that. It has something to do with my female lead—Violet—and I’m really excited she’s telling the first chapter. In fact, I released the first-ever sneak peek of July Thunder! The picture is to the right, but since it’s hard to read, you can read it below. (Be sure to read the “What I’m Publishing” section, because more sneak peeks are coming.) I’m officially 24,549 into the new version.

July 1, 2090

Violet

I’d learned two rules since President Henderson declared bad bloods the right to live again.

  1. Freedom came with rules attached.
  2. Breaking rules was in my blood.

Rebelling was how I survived, after all. And nothing screamed rebellion more than the color black.

I put my best black boot forward to make my entrance at Western Elementary. As I stepped out of the shadows into the halls, I changed from a ghost to a girl. The same girl that gave Shadow Alley its name. The same girl that lived on the streets, then lived in the Northern Flock, then survived them both. And now, that girl was expected to be anyone but herself.

My name was Violet Wilson, and I was a citizen now.

This isn’t to say this will be the final opening, but I thought I’d keep you updated as I move along. I’m also going to start sharing #1lineWed from July Thunder! This week’s preview was school.

What I’m Publishing:

The Seconds Before Sunrise paperback is back up! And it's 20% off.

The Seconds Before Sunrise paperback is back up! And it’s 20% off.

So here’s the deal. The paperback release of Bad Bloods: November Snow is September 19. I keep thinking about how to celebrate this the right way, and I finally settled on more sneak peeks of July Thunder, since it’s taking me longer to write than I hoped. So sign up for my newsletter and be sure to visit my blog on September 19 to see more excerpts, an inspirational Pinterest board, and more!

Also, speaking of paperbacks, I know a lot of you have been trying to order the paperback of Seconds Before Sunrise, book 2 of The Timely Death Trilogy! Thanks for reading and making the book sell out! My publisher fixed the issue, and now, the paperback of Seconds Before Sunrise is back in stock everywhere! (And it’s only $7.00, which is 20% off the usual price.)

This week, I also got more news on Penned Con! Author Natasha Hanova and I will be at booth 35 in the Breckenridge Ballroom during Penned Con St. Louis on September 23 & 24. Here is the complete map of booths. Come out and see us!

What I’m Reading:

Rook by Sharon Cameron

Rook by Sharon Cameron

I finished Rook by Sharon Cameron! A homage to The Scarlet Pimpernel, Rook is sophisticated, intimate, and philosophical. It is reminiscent of the French Revolution and all the tension that comes along with it, but it doesn’t take place during the French Revolution. Instead, it takes place in the far-off future set back to the Dark Ages after a world disaster and reconstruction. What would happen to us after a polar shift and how would life continue on? Well, that’s what type of world Rook by Sharon Cameron takes place in. It’s definitely a book to remember. It’s unique, lively, and treacherous. For those of you looking for an awesome, intimate standalone, read this book right meow. Recommend to those looking for a satisfying standalone, reminiscent of the French Revolution, homage to The Scarlet Pimpernel, romantic, mysterious, past a dystopian time, vivid descriptions, romantic. Strong female lead. Humorous philosophy. Betrayal and religion. Favorite Quote: “To be eclipsed by you, Miss Bellamy, could only be an honor.” Read my full four-star review by clicking here.

I also started The Marked Girl by Lindsey Klingele.

What I’m Listening To:

What I’m Watching:

I saw The Light Between Oceans over Labor Day weekend, and it was beautiful! The cinematography was astounding. So beautiful and breath-taking. And the story will tear your heart apart. One thing I thought I loved the most about this movie was how much I didn’t like the characters (like, not at all), but I still sympathized with them, and I was still moved by their story. I think that’s really rare, to be able to get an audience to love the story, even though the characters make terrible, selfish decisions. Seriously, go see it. If not for the story, for the oceanic scenes captured. It’s brilliant.

What I’m Baking, Making, and Drinking:

Banana Chocolate Cupcakes

Banana Chocolate Cupcakes

My oven finally got fixed, so I baked cupcakes! I made banana chocolate cupcakes with a chocolate buttercream icing. They were amazing. (And I’m afraid of how many more sweets I’m going to eat now that my oven is fixed and I have new recipe cookbooks.)

What I’m Wearing:

My Sailor Moon sweater! I need some extra pep in my step.

What I’m Wanting:

Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series is being made into a TV series?!? I mean, yes! I cannot wait. You can read my five-star review of Throne of Glass here. Read this article about the TV show right here. It’ll be on Hulu and called Queen of Shadows.

What I’m Dreaming Of:

So, I have no idea what type of society this dream took place in, but it was very desert-like, and a band of masked kids commit all these Robin Hood type crimes. Naturally, the government is chasing them, but the child telling the dream is a little genius, and he chases them down during one of their crimes. Though, he happens to stumble upon a dying one first. (Shot. By the government.) The kid stays with the dying one until he’s gone, then climbs a series of wooden ladders to the lair. When he finds them, they decide to let him stay, but he realizes he’s number 72. And there’s only 13 in this room. All of the others have passed. But he wants to be a part of this group, because he believes in their cause. (What their cause is, I have no clue. Yay, dreams plot holes!) But after the first night, a chick shows up, and she’s apparently one of the originals who left on her own accord. But now she’s back, and drama ensues. Then, I woke up. Potential book idea? Maybe. This is the type of dream I’d probably base a novel off of (once I fill in plot holes, of course), but it was quite fun!

What Else Is Going On:

I slept through a 5.3 magnitude earthquake this week! No joke. I’m a bit infamous for sleeping through strange things. In the 90’s, I slept through a Packers game in Lambeau Field. In Puerto Rico, I fell asleep in a rooftop hot tub. What can I say? I’m just staying true to my reputation.

What I’m Writing:

Unfortunately, I’m still in a writing slump. Right when I think I’m getting my footing somewhere, I feel like it slips out from under me. That being said, I’ve reached a point in the Bad Bloods Prequel (which is free on Wattpad, hint hint) that I’ve had to start writing more information in the stories to come. So, I wrote Niki’s story this week, and it will release on July 15!

I also started Take Me Never! Take Me Never is the third book in the Tomo Trilogy, and while none of the books in this trilogy are currently available, I have not given up on it yet. (And I never will.) I’m 3,099 words into it and desperately searching for rap music. If you have rap music suggestions, send them my way. Sophia loves it. As a hint, we are currently up in the air. (And Sophia doesn’t like it very much.)

I want to give a shout out to Renee Elaine for tweeting out the sweetest encouragement a writer can get. She read last week’s Saturdate post and wished me luck in beating this writing slump, and I promise I will! Thank you for your encouragement. ❤

What I’m Publishing:

We’re a week and two days away from the release of Bad Bloods: November Rain!

What I’m Reading:

Let There Be Linda by Rich Leder

Let There Be Linda by Rich Leder

Since it was aliens week, I’m FINALLY reading The Last Star by Rick Yancey, and I’m loving this conclusion to The 5th Wave trilogy. If you haven’t started this sci-fi series, check out my 5-star reviews of The 5th Wave, my YouTube video about The 5th Wave, and my review of The Infinite Sea.

Let There Be Linda by Rich Leder released this week, and I was lucky enough to read a pre-release copy of this hilarious, twisted comedy. Rich Leder is one of my favorite indie authors of all time, so I definitely recommend all of his works, but this one is perfection if you love Quentin Tarantino. The novel follows two estranged brothers—one is an accountant and one is a con-man talent agent—as they get wrapped up in LA’s San Fernando Valley during the hottest summer in Southern California history. Maybe it starts with a girl who claims she can bring dead people back to life. Maybe it starts with a bad bet on a racehorse. Maybe it’s the missing $75,000 a psychotic comedian cop decides to chase. Maybe that’s not even the half of it. This dynamic cast features characters that are rich and crazy in their own unique way, and how the story weaves together is priceless. If you want to laugh this summer—and you’re searching for some glorious gore—this book is for you. Look out for Chachi. Recommend to readers who want to laugh, and those who don’t flinch away from a little horror and magical realism. Read my full five-star review by clicking here.

What I’m Listening To:

Postmodern Jukebox is basically my favorite YouTube channel around.

 What I’m Watching:

I went to the theatre a lot this week. (So it might be because I’m still in a writing slump). But I had a ton of fun! I saw Independence Day Resurgence, which—honestly—I was not expecting much, and I was proved wrong. I absolutely loved this sequel. It was great to see the old cast. I remember watching this movie with my dad when I was a kid, so it was fun to see it redone, and I loved how they embraced the old 90’s humor throughout it.

Independence Day Resurgence

I also saw Finding Dory, which PERFECTION. Who doesn’t love the Finding Nemo movies? There’s nothing to say about this movie other than if you loved the first, you’ll love this one, too. It couldn’t have been better.

I like scaring myself, too, so I saw Conjuring 2, which was pretty good. I freaked out a few times. But I spent most of my week watching Unsealed on Netflix. What’s Unsealed? An alien show, of course! (Because I could not get enough aliens this week.) If you like alien shows, think Ancient Aliens on the History Channel, then this show is pretty entertaining. I learned about a few new cases I’d never heard of before, and it’s fun to sit around a speculate.

ALIENS.

What I’m Baking, Making, and Drinking:

Cream cheese stuffed muffins

Cream cheese stuffed muffins

I baked cream cheese stuffed blueberry and chocolate chip muffins this week, and I definitely recommend this recipe. I split half my batch for the chocolate ones.

What I’m Wearing:

My Pikachu hat as I’m hunting for Pokemon on my PokemonGO app! I mean, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This app is perfection. I caught a freakin’ Eevee, which was my favorite Pokemon when I was a kid. (Along with Ponyta, Charmander, Pikachu, Togepi, Snorlax, …okay. I love them all.) I cannot get enough of this app, but I must thank Justin’s Book Blog for walking me through it via Twitter. Check him out, and tell him thank you for me! Also, my favorite coffee shop—Headrush Roasters—turned out to be a PokeStop. UGH. I’m never going to leave.

What I’m Wanting:

#YallFest! That line up is perfection. I’m honestly considering going since I plan to visit SC in September anyway. It’s a matter of dividing my St. Louis – SC trip to two separate trips instead of one, so I am able to go to SC in November. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can go! I’ll know at the beginning go August.

What I’m Dreaming Of:

Since I had a bunch of aliens in my life, I naturally had a dream about aliens. But I don’t remember much. (You know aliens. They sort of wipe your memory after they abduct you.) But my name was Mei? And I had a little sister that I saved by running into some caves, though our mother wasn’t so lucky. She drowned in a 5th Wave style flood. But we lived with two others at the top of this cave, and we started building a raft when we realized the aliens lived UNDERWATER. It was basically Jaws + Independence Day.

What Else Is Going On:

I have seen the proofs of my new authors photos, and I cannot wait to share them with everyone! Huntress Photography is wonderful, and they totally embraced my crazy, frizzy, angry hair.

#SATurdate: Peaky Blinders, Embassy Row 3, Dido, & Don’t You Cry

4 Jun

What I’m Writing:

Right now, I have three manuscripts complete: Take Me Tomorrow, Take Me Yesterday (though I need to edit it), and the mysterious D. Now, I add the equally mysterious S. I’m still on a bit of a writing hiatus, but S is a manuscript I’d love to chase after the Tomo Trilogy and D. (It never ends, does it?) The reason I think S could be so neat is because it’s the first book I’m determined to save any and all notes while writing it. You see, I’m a thrower outer. I don’t like keeping my notes or old scenes or original files. I feel like keeping old materials holds me back in a jinx sort of a way. This makes it really difficult later on when I’m asked how I built my book from scratch…which means this novel—no matter how long it takes—could be the first one I’m keeping real insight on…or at least, a more than usual amount. (I’m still throwing out a lot. I honestly can’t help myself.) That being said, it’s a YA fantasy, and I’ve written the first two chapters, so it’s only 3,787 words so far. I’ve outlined the next twelve chapters or so as well. I look forward to seeing where this project might take me one day.

What I’m Publishing:

You’ll also see the link to Ryne’s Story—the fourth origin story in the FREE Bad Bloods Prequel on Wattpad—but first a sneak peek of his story: I never thought I was shallow until life proved that I was.

What I’m Reading:

Don't You Cry by Mary Kubica

Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica

I finished Winter by Marissa Meyer, and of course I rated it 5 stars. The Lunar Chronicles is a wonderful sci-fi/fantasy YA series for those of you who love fairy tale retellings. I really enjoyed Winter as a character, and the ending was priceless. Funny story, though. I was having issues posting a review to Amazon. They rejected me not once, not twice, but THREE times before I lost it and e-mailed them. Turns out it was because of my use of “idiot” which was a direct quote from the book:

“You might be an idiot, but I assure you, you’re quite a lovable one.”

He shook his head. “You’re the only person in the galaxy who would ever call me lovable.”

“I’m the only person in the galaxy crazy enough to believe it.”

Read my five-star review here.

I also began Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica. I actually won this book through Goodreads, and I’m enjoying it so far! It’s very vivid and suspenseful. I’m about 120 pages in.

What I’m Listening To:

Dido! She sings to my soul. She also happens to sing songs that I’m listening to while writing S.

What I’m Watching:

I went back to the theatre this week to see Alice Through the Looking Glass! I thought it was wonderful, but I spent most of my week watching the third season of Peaky Blinders on Netflix. If you love gangsters, Peaky Blinders is for you. This season was a bit more…crazy? (eh-hem, Russians)…than usual, but I enjoyed it, and I’m excited it was already renewed for a season 4 and 5.

What I’m Baking, Making, and Drinking:

13321957_1054522697928244_5706116307588296462_nI baked s’mores cookies this week! Here is the recipe I used, though I used dark chocolate, mini marshmallows, and an extra egg.

If you want summer s’mores but you also want cookies, this is the perfect recipe! They are super gooey in their marshmallow glory, and I loved how the dark chocolate cut through the sweetness. A great summer treat.

What I’m Wearing:

Sandals…because my cat Kiki decided to ATTACK the back of my foot. After I dropped a cup and scared her by accident, she went into fight mode and went crazy cat with her claws. I can’t wear normal shoes at all.

What I’m Wanting:

Take The Key and Lock Her Up

Take The Key and Lock Her Up

Take The Key and Lock Her Up by Ally Carter! She revealed the cover this week, and I’m DYING for book 3 of the Embassy Row series. If you haven’t read her Embassy Row series, do it now. It’s fantastic, and Ally Carter’s cliffhangers kill me every time. If you’re curious about this series, read my 5-star reviews of All Fall Down (book 1) and See How They Run (book 2).

What I’m Dreaming Of:

I invited everyone to Kansas for a book event, but then there was an earthquake…which happened to kill everyone at the event? So, Kansas accused me of witch craft, and chased me down until the end of time. (Please don’t take this as an omen for future book signings like I did. I was TERRIFIED when I woke up.)

28 May

What I’m Writing:

I’ve actually been working on the free Bad Bloods Prequel on Wattpad this week. Even though the origin stories were written a long time ago, the next few stories needed more attention than the other ones. I hope you’ve enjoyed the first three chapters—which included the origin stories of Adam, Michele, and Maggie—and you’ll meet Ryne from the Northern Flock on June 3. Even crazier? Violet’s story releases on Wattpad June 17. Violet—previously known as Kati in the original publication—is actually a shade, and she may or may not be directly linked to The Timely Death Trilogy. That’s right. Bad Bloods and The Timely Death Trilogy are linked. After Violet, though, you’ll FINALLY get to meet a Southern Flock character. (They formed later than the Northern Flock, hence why you haven’t met them yet.) I’ll continue to post a new origin story every other Friday on Wattpad. If you like the stories, please vote, comment, and share. It helps little authors like me out. Other times, I get really bored (since I’m trying to force myself to take a little break from writing), and I spend hours on Rinmaru games creating my characters. Here’s Adam, Michele, and Maggie as kids.

What I’m Reading:

13245305_1049308838449630_6469427564510674207_nI FINALLY started Winter by Marissa Meyer! As many of you know, I love The Lunar Chronicles, so I’ve been holding onto the fourth book with a deep desperation for more time to read it. I’m only a little ways into it, but I love it already. Winter is such an interesting, complex and shameless character. She’s very refreshing, and of course, a welcome addition to The Lunar Chronicles cast.

What I’m Listening To:

13320366_1049951935051987_9197921459974128700_oTornado sirens. That’s right. We had some tornado issues here this week. And they almost killed me. And by “almost killed me,” I mean my cats almost killed me when I was forcing them into the basement to…you know…save their lives…from the tornados that never came. Oh, well. I’ve always wanted Wolverine scars on my neck. All was forgiven when we watched the storm together afterward.

What I’m Watching:

Since I’m attempting to take a writing break, I practically lived at the theatre.

X-Men Apocalypse: I see why there are rumors to replace Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. I LOVE LOVE LOVE J-Law, but I feel like they’ve typecasted her into playing Katniss playing Mystique rather than an authentic Mystique (which I bet is the director’s choice, not hers), but it might be time to switch things up. Other than that little note, I LOVED X-Men Apocalypse. It was really fun to see how it tied into the other films, and I most definitely loved the hint to the destruction of the future Jean/Phoenix. Nightcrawler is one of my favorites, so it was great seeing him, too! Stay after those credits, folks. The little teaser is awesome.

PHPXPnMD6JavTU_1_l

Money Monster: I surprisingly loved this movie. I don’t know why I didn’t think I would like it. (Maybe because I only saw slander ads after George Clooney was marketing to pay off some student loan debt while advertising for this movie.) But I really loved this movie. Although one or two scenes weren’t believable to me, I thought it was suspenseful and disturbingly honest about the economy and how it affects the little guy. It leaves you dissatisfied in a perfect way.

clooney-char

I also saw Zootopia this week. That movie is SUPER cute, and I really loved the message behind it. I also want a pet fox now.

I recommend all three movies above.

What I’m Baking, Making, and Drinking:

After having family in town, we had 12 bananas in the house that were going to rot, so I made mini banana foster cheesecakes and honey vanilla banana bread. Click either link for the recipe I used. I definitely recommend them both, though the banana bread will definitely last longer, and those cheesecakes are awesome but SUPER sweet. (I’ll definitely make them again.)

desserts

What I’m Wearing:

I wore yellow to channel my inner minions while baking banana desserts.

What I’m Wanting:

CjY2bS6VAAQ7gfZCassandra Clare is writing a Magnus Bane trilogy with Wesley Chu for adults, and I want it right meow. Here’s the official announcement from EW: Cassandra Clare Will Publish Series Based on Magnus Bane.

What I’m Dreaming Of:

So a bounty hunter was trying to kill me, and a friend called—very nonchalant about my impending death—and invited me to come on a train ride if I survived. I barely reached the station without being killed, but I boarded the train with my friend safely. Except not really. This train wasn’t just a train. It was an ocean train…so it swam over waves and storms and such. You could also get on the on-board swimming pool, which connected with the ocean, and there, you could swim with the dolphins and other sea creatures as you traveled on the train. But then people started committing murder on the ocean vessel, and we were trying to solve it. It ended up being the dolphins. Tricky creatures.

What Else Is Going On:

changeYou probably heard the news, but there’s been a slight change to my #BFestBuzz! I’ll be signing books and hosting an author panel in TWO Barnes & Noble stores in the Kansas City area during B-Fest!

On Saturday, June 11th, come see me at Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, KS.
Event Link.

On Sunday, June 12th, you can see me at Zona Rosa in Kansas City, MO. Event Link.

I really hope to meet some of you there, but since I know many of you don’t live in the KC area, I hope one day that I can come to your town, too!

#SATurdate: Captain America, Chunky Monkey, Paperbacks, & Minions

14 May

What I’m Writing:

Right now, I’m doing an initial edit of D before I move on from it. As of today, I’m 63,075 words into it, so only 30,000 to go! (Have I mentioned how exhausted I am?) Most importantly, though, I’d like to give another lovely shout out to Author Jonas Lee for helping me this past month! He’s helping me with the project as well, and I really appreciate his input and encouragement. So, thank you, Jonas!

What I’m Publishing:

13221700_3230314315411_6104904338034016177_nI received my author copies of November Rain in the mail! I’m super excited to have November Rain in my hands, and I’m even more excited that ten wonderful bloggers received pre-release eBook copies, too. 😀 I hope you enjoyed this week’s #TeaserTuesday! If you haven’t seen it, be sure to check on my right side tool bar. It will be updated with new teasers every week, along with links to the Wattpad Prequel as it updates.

The #1lineWed preview was “opening lines from any chapter,” so this week’s preview is actually the opening line of Bad Bloods!

draft3 What I’m Reading:

13151670_1035003766546804_6180950616842075677_nI finished Emerge by Tobie Easton, and let me tell you guys, this book is SO STINKIN’ CUTE. IF you love mermaids—especially The Little Mermaid—you will LOVE this book. You’ll love the humor (hello fish puns!), you’ll revel in the madness, and I think you’ll fangirl over the romance just as much as I did. Between Lia, Clay, Caspian, and other cast members, Emerge is fresh yet evocative, and highly recommended. You can read my five-star review here. And, oh yeah, #TeamCaspian.

I also started Genesis Girl by Jennifer Bardsley, and it’s great so far! I’m hoping I’ll finish it this coming week.

What I’m Listening To:

I found a mix CD I made back in 2008 and listened to it like crazy this week. My favorite part? Half of it was the soundtrack to Romeo + Juliet (The Claire Danes, Leo DiCaprio version.) I mean, who doesn’t love #1 Crush by Garbage and Lovefool by the Cardigans?

What I’m Watching:

I saw Captain America: Civil War this week, and while I know I’ve developed a bit of a superhero-hater reputation thanks to my poking fun at Batman V. Superman, I thought Captain America: Civil War was pretty entertaining. Then again, I am a Marvel fan, so I tend to enjoy their movies more. It wasn’t X-Men or Deadpool, but I thought it was good. Spider-Man was probably my favorite part.

Unknown

I also watched Minions thanks to Netflix, and let me tell you, that was probably my favorite movie I saw this week. It was adorable, hilarious, and the ending was spectacular. I’m also in love with Sandra Bullock, so that was a plus. I’m a bit like Bob. Give me a fluffy bear or animal any day, and I am entertained. And a bit of an airhead. So that cracked me up.

Minions_Revision_PROOF

In other news, I watched Special Correspondents—which is about two journalists faking their news reports from NYC—and I really enjoyed that. I also watched the H.H. Holmes documentary on Netflix, because, you know, my obsession with serial killers. All of these movies are recommended.

What I’m Baking, Making, and Drinking:

13174143_1040539485993232_8132323237278539808_nI baked Chunky Monkey Brownies this week, which is basically a banana chocolate brownie (but I made mine dark chocolate). I used this recipe, cutting the sugar and chocolate by half and using dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.

What I’m Wearing:

My Pikachu shirt. I always wear it when I’m really stressed out, and I’ll tell you what, between finishing a novel way too quickly and moving straight into edits, I’m exhausted. I need a little Pikachu pick me up.

What I’m Wanting:

A million paperback copies of November Rain. (Okay. Maybe more like 15.)

What I’m Dreaming Of:

I had a bunch of dreams about D, which means I both loved them and can’t talk about them much. Maybe next week?

What Else Is Going On:

I have family coming into town for almost all of next week, so there probably won’t be that many updates in regards to publishing or writing, but I will try to be around still. In the meantime, Shannon’s on a bit of a vacation. So, see you around!

What I’m Writing:

I’m still working on D! But pre-order week is the craziest week ever. (Okay. Maybe not as crazy as release week, but alas…) Between my day job as an editor and my author goals, I was stupid busy, so I’m only 60,000 words into D. That being said, I also worked crazy hard on prepping the Bad Bloods Prequel. Yes, a prequel. And you can read more about that below.

What I’m Publishing:

Bad Bloods is officially up for pre-order! And because I’ve said it once before, here are those pre-order links again. You can read the first chapter on Wattpad by clicking here.

wattpadAdamAs many of you heard, I’m also publishing a FREE prequel on Wattpad, but more news about that will come out on Monday’s blog post. If you want to get started anyway, you can read the How to Read These Stories and the first chapter—Adam—by clicking the links. I’ll be uploading a new origin story every other Friday. But, again, more information will be posted this Monday.

Other than all that craziness, Clean Teen Publishing is putting together a book trailer and business cards for me! (The book trailer is AWESOME. This will also release on Monday.) I also made five more teasers, which will start releasing THIS Tuesday. Seriously, from here on out, you can expect so much news on Bad Bloods to release on the regular. Get ready. This is going to be wild.

The #1lineWed preview this week was “nod.”

“You are not to say anything. Not a word. Don’t answer questions. Don’t look at them. Smile. Nod. Walk straight for the door.”

What I’m Reading:

12998337_1025499567497224_5493488091969500484_oThe Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater: Like everything else in my life, I didn’t have a lot of free time between work and pre-order chaos, so I’m still reading The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater (and a little disappointed she’s going to be within a two-hour drive of me on the 29th, but I can’t go). ARGH. I will meet her one day. I swear on it.

What I’m Listening To:

Melanie Martinez—I’m a bit obsessed with her (and her music videos). If you all haven’t checked her out—including if you only know Carousel from American Horror Story—I’m telling you right now, go check out her other songs. Dollhouse is my personal favorite, but Mad Hatter and Cry Baby are definitely up there.

What I’m Watching:

The Philosopher Kings, which is a documentary about the janitors who work at some of the most elite colleges in the US. Get some tissues, because you’re going to ugly cry with me. I highly recommend this documentary.

What I’m Baking, Making, and Drinking:

13006723_1027492807297900_4721895012803377268_nBanana Chocolate Bread Pudding: I used rye bread, heavy cream instead of milk, and dark chocolate chips instead, but here is the recipe I used. It was AWESOME. I will definitely make it again, especially when my bread is going stale.

What I’m Wearing:

Pajamas! (Sorry, Find Your Style KC. I know we talked about this during #AuthorinaCoffeeShop this week, but I simply love pajamas.) For those who didn’t make it to #AuthorinaCoffeeShop, Find Your Style KC is my personal shopper/lovely lady assistant. She helps dress me for public events. (Seriously. I need the help. I’m terrible at going out in public.)

What I’m Wanting:

Some serious writing time! Those weeks that really take that away from you can hurt. Bad.

What I’m Dreaming Of:

I had a dream of a sloth staring at me, and for some reason, I screamed myself out of my dream. Why? I have no idea. I love sloths. I think they are the cutest, ugly animal ever.

What Else Is Going On:

Have I mentioned Bad Bloods is up for pre-order?

Oh.

I have? Five times? Really?

Well.

This is awkward.
