Movie Mention: Star Trek Into Darkness

Before I begin my posts over the next couple of days, I’m going to be sharing links to Minutes Before Sunset reviews and interviews from some wonderful bloggers. Today, I’d like to thank Kristy Feltenberger Gillespie, blogger on “Keep Calm and Write On” for posting this review. I’d also like to thank the Kansas City rock band, Averya, for already reviewing Minutes Before Sunset. Their reviews push me forward! And I’m looking forward to the abundance of reviews coming from those who have volunteered to participate in my last posting and others who’ve participated since the release. Thank you!

I’d also like to offer another opportunity: I’m a part of a website called Happify. It’s a website dedicated to creating time for happiness in your personal life, and I’ve earned five invites. Comment below if you’re interested (with your email) and I’ll do a raffle for the invites! The winners will be announced on my next post.

Onto the movie:

During another adventure of Midwest storms last night, I saw Star Trek Into Darkness. I know. I know. I’m a little late on this review train, since some were able to see it as early as May 9, but I finally found the time to go, and it was fantastic!

Just to give you a little bit of my background, my mother was a trekky, so I actually know a lot about the series. That being said, I did think some of the changes were unnecessary. But, again, I’m pretty openminded about movie adaptations, and I ultimately found this movie really entertaining–both visually stunning, action-packed, and humorous, although I did find the plot pretty predictable (aside from one part.) However, despite the predictability, I still enjoyed this movie immensely.

StarTrekIntoDarkness_FinalUSPosterI get enough of Zachary Quinto  and Zoe Saldana. On top of that, Benedict Cumberbatch (I’m sure many of you recognized him from Sherlock Holmes) is an interesting villain. I don’t want to give away the movie, or I would expand on this statement.

Basically, I had a really good time seeing the second one, and I’m looking forward to the third movie when it comes out. (I’ve actual spent a large portion of my afternoon researching this, and it looks like there is definitely a third one in the making.)

Have you seen this movie? What did you think? If not, are you planning on seeing this movie in the future? I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially if you’ve read and/or watched the old series. That way, if anyone is interested and comes to this page, they can get an array of opinions!

Hope there isn’t tornadic weather where anyone else is. Have a great day.

  1. i saw it today! it was awesome! Some interesting choices and ideas about duality and violence and reciprocity. Loved it!

      1. I don’t know what it is? What is Happify? What do you do with it? I wouldn’t want to take a spot for someone who would use it if I wouldn’t, lol

      2. Happify is a website that gives you daily activities (nothing crazy and you can do it at your speed) to bring more happiness to your life. For instance, I’m doing an “art track” right now, and it gives me a form that asks what I did today that I’m proud of. I write it down, and the followers I have continue to encourage one another while posting about happiness themselves.

  2. I saw the movie too. Yeah, it was super entertaining but also really disappointing because some of the scenes were shot-for-shot a remake of one of the original movies (you know which one lol).

I hope no one spoils the twist where Eggs Benedict Cucumberbatch is actually Kirk’s father.

    Oops…

    1. Bahahahhaha! Leave it to you to bring extreme laughter to the table (or to my coffee table where my laptop is right now.)
Would you be interested in joining the contest for Happify?

  3. I love Star Trek, I enjoyed the first quite a bit. I am looking forward to watching this one, Benedict is such a talent!

      1. I think I could be, I was just trying to find more information about the site. As whiteravensoars said; I wouldn’t want to take a chance away for someone else who might be better suited for the site 🙂

Is there information on their site at all? About what Happify is?

      3. Oh that’s an interesting site! I like that they want to bring more happiness to people’s life’s. Sounds like a fantastic site to be apart of!

  4. Really fantastic movie! I wasn’t a huge fan of the first one, but this one was just amazing. I found the ending slightly ridiculous, but that’s all right. I’ve seen The Trouble With Tribbles. Star Trek is allowed to be ridiculous from time to time 🙂

    1. The ending…lol…It was kind of hard to take parts of that seriously, but, like you said, it is Star Trek :]

      1. It sounds fun, but I will decline the contest. I just joined the Global Corporate Challenge, which is a big time commitment, and I don’t want to win a spot in Happify and not use it when someone else would make much better use of it 🙂

  5. I loved this one and the prior, but I’m super easy to please with movies. Glad to hear there will be a third!

  6. My husband and I did the movie thing this past weekend with a couple we are close with. The guys went to Star Trek, and since she wasn’t into it at all I went with her to Gatsby. Gatsby was ok, but I was sad to miss out on Star Trek. I think it would have been much more fun.

PS – I’m up for Happify!

  7. It was very entertaining. The special effects were great. I liked the story, but I thought they could have done more with the Klingons.

  8. I enjoyed the movie. As one commenter said it retold elements from another Star Trek movie, but I thought the twists, turns and changes made it interesting. My only serious complaint was the deus ex machina invoked to get the villain from Earth to another planet quickly. It just didn’t seem necessary and kind of reduced the suspense for me. Aside from that, I liked it.

  9. Star Trek…I LOVED it. I know there are things that could be criticized but I forgive them. I’m a total Trek Geek. I love it so much it’s ridiculous. I’ve seen all the movies and all of the TV series. One day I’m going to re-watch the original TV series because my recollection of seeing episodes over my mother’s shoulder when I was a kid is foggy at best. But everything since then I’ve watched and loved. The new actors play their parts so well, the dialogue and relationships are excellent. HUGE GRIN just thinking about it all. Cannot WAIT for the next one! 🙂 (Confession…I really want to go to a Trek convention one day too.)
